A new option has been added to billing settings that allows companies to define which value will be displayed in the Patient Account (Box 26) field of the CMS-1500 when generating claims.
This setting is available under Insurance Billing and Claims Settings > General > CMS-1500.
With this update:
- The Patient Account (Box 26) field allows users to select which value will be included in Box 26 of the CMS-1500.
- Two options are available:
- Patient EMR: uses the patient's EMR number. This is the default option and maintains the system's previous behavior.
- Claim control number (CLM01): uses the control number with which the claim was submitted to the payer, corresponding to the value sent in the CLM01 field.
- The Claim control number (CLM01) is different from the claim code displayed within the application; these are two separate identifiers.
- A help icon has been added next to the field to explain the purpose of this setting and help users select the appropriate option.
This enhancement provides greater flexibility when generating the CMS-1500, allowing each company to determine which identifier should be used in the Patient Account field based on its billing needs.
