New functionality and validations have been added to CMS 701 to simplify its preparation and ensure information consistency before completing the service.
- CMS 701 now includes an ordered discharge toggle. When physician-ordered discharge is indicated, recertification dates are removed because there is no longer a new period to recertify.
- If physician-ordered discharge is indicated while Box 21 states that the service should continue, the form displays a warning indicating that one of the two responses must be reviewed.
- Fields required to complete the service are identified with an asterisk. If required information is missing when attempting to complete it, the missing fields are highlighted and the screen automatically scrolls to the first one.
- The certifying physician’s signature is required only when completing the service, allowing the form to be saved before the physician has signed.
- The appointment summary and patient report link to the official CMS-701 PDF, which is regenerated whenever the service is edited to keep the available version up to date.
These improvements allow CMS 701 to be saved and updated throughout its preparation, while adding validations before completion and maintaining an up-to-date version of the official PDF form.
