The patient and each service can now have multiple primary diagnoses at the same time, allowing more than one diagnosis to remain identified as primary.
- Marking a new diagnosis as primary no longer removes the primary designation from the other diagnoses.
- When multiple primary diagnoses exist, claims and CMS 700 and CMS 701 forms use the most recently recorded diagnosis among those that were active on the service date as the primary diagnosis.
- In a pending note configured to display Patient Primary Diagnoses, if none of the primary diagnoses were active on the service date, the diagnoses that were active on that date are displayed instead.
This allows multiple primary diagnoses to be maintained while using the appropriate diagnosis based on each service date.
